GRE
GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a pre-requisite test which is supposed to be taken up by those students who wish to pursue higher education within countries like United States, U.K. etc.

HISTORY

            GRE is conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Services) a non-profitable organization with its headquarters at New Jersey, USA.  Way back in 1990’s GRE used to be paper based test with three sections i.e. Quant, Verbal and Analytical.  From October 2002 onwards PBT had been changed to CAT (Computer Adaptive Test).

EXAMINATION STRUCTURE

           Total Time 2 Hrs. 30 Minutes

            While discussing the above structure the following points should also be highlighted:-

1. Sum of scores of Quant and Verbal gives the total score of GRE as (400 – 1600).  Students will get this score immediately after their completion of exam.
2. Apart from this score, AWA score will be sent to the student separately through post within 18 working days from the date of completion of exam.
3. The average of the scores of Issue and Argument will be the final AWA score.
4. Between every two sections, an optional break of 10 minutes will be given for the student.
5. In the exam center, 4 white sheets will be provided for rough usage.
6. There is a chance that some students may get an additional section called Dummy or Experimental.  This can be either Quant or Verbal.  For this section, score is not taken into consideration.

TOPICS THAT ARE TESTED

            For the convenience of students, the syllabus can be classified into four modules.

As far as AWA is considered, ETS has prescribed some standard Issues and Arguments, which are 244 in number each.  Students are supposed to prepare from these 244 only and give their AWA section.

PRICING POLICY OF EXAM

            GRE Exam cost is $ 170.  In order to reschedule the exam, it will cost $ 50.  Cancellation of Exam date will result in a deduction of $ 85.  Rescheduling or Cancellation should be done before 10 days of the Examination date.

No. OF ATTEMPTS

            Any student can take up GRE Exam for 4 times in the year with minimum One Month gap between every two attempts.

VALIDITY OF EXAM

            GRE score is valid for 5 years from the date of Exam.

NATURE OF EXAM

            GRE is a Computer Adaptive Examination.  The first question will be always of Medium level difficulty.  Based on the response given for the first question, second question level of difficulty will be decided.

Students frequently have a doubt, that whether based on location, level of difficulty of questions will vary or not?  In fact, some students based on this, try to give their Exam by traveling thousands of miles, which is worth wasting time as well as money.  As GRE is of computer adaptive nature, wherever you write, finally you will end up with the same kind of score projections
