British Chevening Scholarships
In order to be eligible to apply for a Chevening Scholarship the student must:

1. Be a graduate with proven academic skills;
2. Be committed to return to your country and contribute to its socio-economic development by using the skills and knowledge acquired in the UK;
3. Be established in a career, with a track record of excellence and achievement, and the prospect of becoming a leader in your chosen field. The vast majority of Chevening scholars are aged 25 - 35 years old;
4. Be able to demonstrate how the scholarship will benefit your country on your return;
5. Have good English language skills

Commonwealth Scholarships & Fellowships Plan

Overseas Research Student Awards Scheme (ORSAS)
These awards, funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), are for postgraduate study leading to a higher degree at a British university. Selection is based solely on academic merit and research potential.
Awards cover the difference between the cost of home and overseas tuition fees, and do not cover living costs. They are made for one year in the first instance, and are renewable for a second or third year subject to satisfactory progress.

Availability of part-time jobs on campus: 
If you are concerned about living costs the University’s Job shop can help you find part-time employment to supplement your income. Under the immigration rules most international students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week in their spare time whilst studying, and full-time during vacations.

Availability of On-campus Housing:
The majority of international students choose to live in traditional Halls of Residence as this is the easiest option .The University has Halls of Residence on five campuses:

1. The Coppice - adjacent to the Perry Barr campus
2. Oscott Gardens - adjacent to the Perry Barr campus
3. Hamstead Campus - approximately 2 miles from Perry Barr campus
4. Cambrian Hall - in the city centre, approximately 2 miles from Perry Barr campus
5. Westbourne Campus - 2 miles south of the city centre and five miles from Perry Barr Campus

Each accommodation site has an Accommodation Manager and a team of workers who look after the accommodation. There are also Student Representatives who are available to help and advise students living in university halls.
