Location:
University of Derby has 2 campuses in central England Derby and Buxton. The Derby Campus is just on the outskirts of Derby city centre and there are also good links with major cities and airports: Nottingham East Midlands Airport - 30 minutes by road. The Birmingham International Airport -approximately one hour by rail or road. Cities of London, Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds - all less than two hours by rail.

Cost of living
The cost of living for students in Derbyshire is one of the lowest in the UK, and much cheaper than can find in cities like London or Manchester. For 2009/10 £7,200 per academic year to cover living expenses, such as accommodation, food, books, clothes, entertainment etc. Below is the approximate idea about the costs for a single student.
Accommodation:
University accommodation is available for international students throughout their course. The self-catering* halls of residence are modern, centrally heated and secure. Living in the halls is a good way to make lots of friends in a close community atmosphere, but where you can still preserve your privacy. Self-catering means that no meals are provided - students share a kitchen to prepare their own food).
Expenditure per week in:
- Rent (heating, lighting and water) - £55
- Food - £25
- Travel to University on Unibus - £7 per week
- Books and course costs - £5
- Telephone - £5
- TV/Video rentals - £4
- Clothes - £10
- Entertainment/going out - £20
Total: £128
Scholarships/Financial Aid availability for int. students:
Yes, we have a limited number of partial scholarships available to non-EU students in their first year of study. They are awarded on the basis of academic merit, and take the form of a tuition fee discount, up to a maximum of £1,000 per student. In order to apply for a scholarship you must first have firmly accepted an unconditional offer to study at the University of Derby, and have also paid the required deposit.
Special notes:
If the student have been accepted on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree and you pay all of your tuition fees at enrolment you will receive a reduction of £500 on your fees.
Part time jobs on campus:
The student can get lots of help and advice on developing your career management skills during course. The student can use the services of career development centre at any time while they are studying
- Careers advice from careers advisers through one-to-one sessions or by telephone or email.
- Careers information in hard copy, on our website and in electronic formats, including DVDs and computer programs.
- Free access to the internet to research jobs, further study, work experience, volunteering and overseas opportunities.
- Workshops led by careers advisers and external organizations, on a range of topics.
- Online database of local, national and international vacancies to help the student to find a part time job, work placement or your first graduate job.
- Register for part time work with our student employment agency.
